Design Concept, Color, Materials
The historic gas station building is a registered landmark building that needed to be preserved, so a new concept for the use of the existing building and additional new buildings was developed. The property has an unusual semi-circle shape embedded in a park in the rear. The new buildings structure follow the circular shape by surrounding the gas station. Part of the structure is a solar panel covered canopy where e-bikes and VW e-cars are displayed. The facades of the new buildings are designed as layers with floor to ceiling glass facades and additional glass panels in front of it that are used depending on the location for info graphics, as blinds or photovoltaic elements.
The actual gas station features the main exhibition and E-mobility charging stations. The new buildings host an exhibit about solar and thermal energy production and saving technologies for the home owner, a cafe, an bank branch and office.
