View bookstore with custom-built-in store fittings

The aim of the design concept for this new book store was not only to provide plenty of shelving space for books but also allow for a space for author readings. For that a custom convertible type of furniture that turns from a book presentation stand to a seat with leather upholstery was designed. The bookstore was a design-built project including production and installation.

Design Concept, Colors, Materials
The design language with slanted elements widens the rooms towards the ceiling, thus makes the rooms feel more open, light and airy. All walls of the store are covered with similar shelving, consisting of base units with sliding doors, open middle sections and above shelves with slanted panels that are reduced in depth towards the ceiling. Simple materials like painted MDF and Maple plywood, the repetition of elements and the reduction of details made for a contemporary but inviting and timeless look.
